10 Records Barbra Banda Has Broken, Set And Equalled At The Olympics

21 year old Zambian striker Barbra Banda has hit the ground running for her country in their maiden Olympics appearance. An underwelming team effort has not stopped the Shangai Shengli forward from firing the back of the net at an unprecedented rate.

She has netted 6 goals in only 2 outings those being a pair of hat tricks in a 10-3 defeat to Nerthelands on Wednesday and in a eight goal stalemate against China on Saturday.

The Shepolopolo captain has set multiple records at the Olympics tournament already. We take a look at ten of those women’s records.

1. MOST GOALS IN A SINGLE OLYMPICS TOURNAMENT
With her 6th goal she equalled a record set by Canadian striker Christine Sinclair during the 2012 Olympics. A record she eventually also shares with fellow Golden Boot contender Mediema.

2. BACK-TO-BACK HAT TRICKS
Barbra Banda became the first woman to score two consecutive hat tricks in Olympics history.

3. AFRICAN RECORD TOPSCORER
Her second goal against China beat Mercy Akide’s all time record of four Olympics goals by an African woman as the Zambian now comfortably stands at six.

4. MOST HAT TRICKS
Her pair of trebles put her up there with Brazilian legend Cristiane as the only players to score multiple hat tricks in the tournament’s history. With the Brazilian having scored them in two different editions.

5. AFRICA TO THE WORLD
Be it the World Cup or Olympics, the industrious forward has now scored the most goals [6] in a FIFA organised tournament by an African woman beating the two [2] goals scored by Mercy Akide in both the 2000 and 2004 Olympics and the three [3] goals scored by Nkiru Okasieme and Gaëlle Enganamouit in the 1999 and 2015 World Cups respectively.

6. DOUBLE TROUBLE
The talismanic forward is also the only player in the tournament’s history to score two hat tricks in a single campaign.

7. NATIONAL HERO
Barbra Banda became the first Zambian player to score a goal at the Olympics. A goal her home country will never forget.

8. YOUNGEST TO SIX
At 21 years, 126 days, the forward became to youngest player to score more than five goals beating the record of World Cup great Marta who netted her sixth Olympic goal against Germany in 2008 at 22 years, 212 days.

9. FIRST AFRICA TREBLE
Despite an embarrassing defeat to Nerthelands, her three goal effort was the first ever by an African woman in the Olympics.

10. CONSOLATION
Barbra Banda also equalled the record of the most goals scored by a player in a lost match which was held by Christine Sinclair against the USA in 2012.

A plethora of records for the African great Barbra Banda as she continues to hoist the continent’s flag and create her own legacy as one the greatest African players in women’s football.

However, the hopes of her country and Africa’s only representative Zambia hang on a thread as they need to beat an in-form Brazil by a huge score line to stand any chance of progressing to the knockouts.

Can Barbara Banda lead copper queens to first Olympic win?

All eyes will be on history maker Barbara Banda who on Wednesday become Africa’s first female to score a hatrick at the Olympic games in history when Zambia will be seeking for their first ever victory in women’s football at the multi-sports event.

The copper queens who are AFRICA’S sole representatives at the 2020 Olympics will this Saturday take to the pitch again in another Group-F encounter against China.

They suffered a massive defeat in their first match against Netherlands who thrashed them 10 goals to 3 to set the record of the highest scoring game ever in the history of the Olympics.

But they will be looking to redeem themselves when they meet China who are also yet yo record a win at the 2020 Olympics.

China suffered a 5-0 defeat when they were beaten by Brazil in their opening match.

Six times FIFA women’s player of the year award winner found the back of the net twice in the match which exposed China’s porous defense.

However, the Zambian defense is equally porous and it will maybe a 50/50 state of affairs for both the Chinese girls and the copper queens who will go head to head on Saturday to seek their first win at the Olympics.

It may again rain goals for the unstoppable Barbara who looks too lethal for defenders to handle at the Olympics.

Going by her last performance, it may just be a question of ‘how many girls will she score?’ and not ‘Will she score?, For she has proven beyond reasonable doubt that she is a thorn in the flesh of defenders.

Zimbabwe or England? Should REISS NELSON consider Africa ?

Arsenal football club star Reiss Nelson who was born in Elephant and Cast , London to a Zimbabwean father and English mother has been tipped to switch his international allegiance to Zimbabwe by multiple fans including fellow players like Wigan Athletic fc defender Tendayi Darikwa who also switched from England to Zimbabwe.

Earlier this year, the Zimbabwean FA said they have opened their doors for all the European born players with Zimbabwean origins to join the Africa cup bound warriors.

Zimbabwe who qualified to next year’s Cameroon Africa cup of nations are looking to go beyond the group stages at the tournament for the first time.

The 21-year old has struggled for game time as he only made less than five premier league appearances last season for the gunners and stands a slim chance in the three lions squad.

He represented England at all youth levels from U16 to U21 which makes him eligible to play for the warriors of Zimbabwe.

Zimbabweans have remained hopeful that he will switch his international allegiance soon before next year’s Afcon kick off in order to boost their squad that has struggled to make it through to the quater finals in the past two edition of the cup of nations.

Micho sacked| Who is Chipolopolo’s next coach ?

Serbian gaffer Mulitin Sredojevic alas MICHO has parted ways with the football association of Zambia on Mutual agreement after recording a series of loses in his last six matches with the Chipolopolo boys.

Micho was hired by the football association of Zambia-FAZ in February 2020 on a two years contract to help the out-of-form chipolopolo redeem their form and qualify to the Africa cup of nations which they later didn’t achieve making it three in a row to fail to qualify to the Afcon finals.

His other task was is to assemble a team that will qualify Zambia to their first ever FIFA world cup.

After failing to qualify the chipolopolo boys to Afcon , Micho told the Zambian media that he needed enough time and that had he started the qualifiers with Zambia they would have qualified.

He was in charge of four out of six of Zambia’s Afcon qualifier matches were he recorded two wins, one lose and one draw securing a total of 7-points out of a possible 12-points which saw the chipolopolo finish third below Zimbabwe and group leaders Algeria who qualified to the next year’s Afcon.

He received praise for his quick impact on the chipolopolo that had struggled in their first two Afcon qualifier matches away to Algeria where they were thrashed 5-0 and at home to their neighbouring rivals Zimbabwe who beat them 1-2.

He was also in charge of the Zambian local based select team that finished in the quater finals at the CHAN tournament in Cameroon earlier this year.

The Zambian FA will now have to look for a new coach in the next few weeks as upcoming FIFA world cup qualifiers were Zambia was drawn in the same group with Tunisia, E. guinea and Mauritania are set to start in two months time from now.

CRITICISM is part of football, RACISM isn’t. STOP IT!

The just ended UEFA European Championship has once again reminded us all why we need to preach peace and unity in the world. Racism is taught , we must all stop it.

Some suspected racist English fans decide to air out their displeasure with an element of racism following England’s loss to Italy in the final when three black players failed to convert the penalty kicks.

Italy came from a goal down and scored in the 2nd minute of the Euros final game to equalize in the second half and send the game into extra time were the Azzurri triumphed by 3 goals to 2 via a penalty shootout.

It was a perfect start from Southgate’s men when Manchester united left back Luke Shaw volleyed from close range from a Keiran trippeir cross to send a Wembley stadium filled with anxious English supporters eager to see their men bring it home after 55 years without a major trophy into pure ecstasy.
England continued to amount pressure on the Italians defense that seemed to be very porous in the early stages of the game but as the game approached half time Chiensa who was a constant threat to the three lions defense came closest with a long range effort that had Jordan Pickford rooted to the spot but unfortunately his effort lacked the accuracy needed to beat England’s number one.

Chiensa continued to combine well with Insignia and second half substitute berardi who came on for Cirlo Immobile, their waves of attacks finally paid off when legendary center-back Leonard Bonucci scored the equalize from a close range after a corner.

Roberto Mancini a footballing architect whose known for his time at Manchester City built a team worthy of winning any tournament after a grueling 120 minutes in an Epic final the game had to be decided through a penalty shootout.

Both teams started on a good note when England captain Harry Kane and Berardi scored. Harry Maguire converted from 12 yards and benadeshili scored as well but Belotti had his penalty saved by Jordan pickford, Manchester United team mates Markus Rashford and and newly signed Jadon Sancho failed to do what they were specifically  brought into the game for. On the other hand, Jogihnio had the chance to be a hero but was denied by England’s pickford.

England’s chance of getting back into the penalty shootout rested in the hands of 19 year old Bakayo Saka who is of Nigerian descent. He had his penalty saved which meant victory for the Italians who where spectacular throughout the whole tournament.

Bukayo saka cries after missing a decisive penalty kick

Sadly instead of been appreciated for having the nerves of steel to even attempt a penalty Rashford, Sancho and Saka’s failure to convert from 12 yards only opened the door of a wave of abuse because according to the racist supporters, Black people can’t make mistakes – if they do, they’re sub-human.

Rashford who regularly speaks out against the racist abuse he gets on social media, earlier this year he took to Twitter to express his distress.

“I’ve been playing this game from the day I could walk,” he said. “I’m built for criticism of my performance but I can’t accept the ape, monkey, baboon, banana, jungle talk.” He added

“As a United fan myself, it’s really difficult stuff to read. And I can only think about how this would have made me feel as a seven-year-old reading it. How would I ever have any faith in humanity?”

Racial abuse from racist supporters continues to be a cancer to the beautiful game, one can only imagine the circumstances that black players have to endure when playing football.

Jadon Sancho sad after missing a penalty kick.

The black players’ patriotism is always questioned each time they have a bad game. Does Rashford, Sancho and Saka’s inability to convert from the spot mean they are not English enough to continue representing their country? It would be pure madness if yes was the answer to that question.

The game of football is suppose to act as a forum for unity and cultural diversity, therefore Racism has no play in football or any other sport.

STOP TEACHING KIDS RACISM! It’s taught and we can end it.

“GO BACK TO NIGERIA”: Saka, Rashford, Sancho racially abused

Following England’s Euro 2020 final lose to Italy on Sunday night, some English fans took to social media to racially abuse the black English players who missed penalties.

Bukayo Saka was among the three English penalty takers that missed the spot kicks. He was born in  Ealing , Greater London to Nigerian parents but chose to represent his country of birth despite several attempts by the Nigerian Football federation to have him play for the super eagles.

Fans post racial comments on Bukayo saka’s Instagram account.

However, Saka is not the only one who was abused online shortly after the match, Jadon Sancho who was born in Camberwell, Greater London to parents from Trinidad and Tobago also suffered the same fate as he too missed a penalty kick.

The 23-year old was born in Manchester and raised in the Wythenshawe area of the city. He is of Kittitian descent, with his grandmother being born on the West Indies island of Saint Kitts.

Meanwhile, the English FA said in a statement released in the early hours of Monday that it is disgusted by the online racism and condemned it in strongest terms.

“The FA strongly condemns all forms of discrimination and is appalled by the online racism that has been aimed at some of our England players on social media,” the statement said.

“We could not be clearer that anyone behind such disgusting behaviour is not welcome in following the team. We will do all we can to support the players affected while urging the toughest punishments possible for anyone responsible.”

England’s dream to win an international trophy for the first time in over 50-years unfortunately was shuttered as Italy emerged victorious after 1-1 draw which was later decided on penalties and ended 3-2.

Steven Gerrard explains Fashion Sakala’s absence in pre-season training

Zambian international striker Fashion Sakala is yet to train with his new team Rangers FC since he arrived in scotland last month.

Sakala signed a pre-contract with Rangers as a free agent from Belgian club Kv Oostende where he netted 14 league goals in the just ended season.

“We need to add to it, so we’re actively working hard to bring some good players in alongside the recruitment already done in Jack [Simpson], Scott (Wright), Nnamdi [Ofoborh] and Fashion Sakala will join us in the coming days.” He said.

Gerrard is also optimistic that sakala will contribute to the making his team be more dynamic and quicker.

“The recruitment system doesn’t stop.
