RECORD: Haller now Africa’s highest scorer in champions league group stage

Ivory coast striker Sebastien Haller became Africa’s highest goal scorer in the history of Uefa champions league group stage.

Haller reached the feet after scoring his ninth goal in the competition in Ajax’s 2-1 win over Besiktas.

The ivorian earlier in the competition surpassed former Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o who scored seven goals in the 2010/2011 season.

He also became the the joint top scorer in the champions league as he is level with polish and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandoski who has also netted nine goals in five appearances.

Haller and his Dutch club, Ajax have since advanced to the knock out stage of the champions league ahead of Germany club Borrusia Dortmund.

With one more game to go in the group stages, Haller can surpass Cristiano Ronaldo who holds the record of 11 goals in a single group stage campaign , a feet he achieved in the 2015/16 season.
