CAN SENEGAL END THEIR 56-YEARS AFCON TROPHYLESS CURSE ?

After making their debut at the Africa cup of nations in 1965 Senegal has come close to winning the trophy twice but all failed attempts.

The highest FIFA ranked national team in Africa has never won the prestigious Africa cup of nations, they were defeated finalists in 2002 and 2019.

The Diofu generation failed, the Demba Ba generation failed but can the Sadio mane generation break this curse?

Who will break their 56-years Afcon drought ?

The Terrenga lions have arguably the most quality players and Africa’s most valuable squad with their players dotted across europe’s top leagues.

Liverpool and Senegal’s forward SADIO MANÉ

With the likes of Sadio mané , their star man in his prime, the Senegalese will hope that he wins the Afcon trophy for them before retiring.

Mané has been a very consistent key player in the Senegal squad and also Liverpool football club, it’s hopeful that he will finally help his country win their first Afcon silverware which they long to see after failing in the previous edition where he helped them reach the finals.

Chelsea and Senegal goalkeeper , EDUARD MENDY

Eduard Mendy is another player Senegalese are looking up to, to help the nation win their first Afcon trophy.

Mendy who plays for English premier league side, Chelsea fc , has kept 20 cleansheets this season and he is being described as one of the best shot stoppers in Europe currently.

He has played eight(8) games for Senegal and out of which he has kept seven(7) cleansheets and only Conceded one(1) goal. Something that has made many fans believe he could be the man to guide the Terranga lions to their afcon glory in Cameroon next year.

Stade de Reims striker , Boulaye Dia

Reims striker Boulaye Dia is also one player that people will be hoping to see perform at next year’s Afcon.

He has scored thirteen(13) goals this season in the french ligue 1 to become the highest african goal scorer in the top french league.

He is a very clinical striker and Senegal will also look up to him during their campaign for their first Afcon trophy in Cameroon.

Monaco fc forward, Kreppin DIATTA

22-years old Kreppin DIATTA is definitely the future for the Terranga , at that age he is already making waves in Europe having impressed in Belgium with Club Brugge, the youngster moved to french side Monaco where he has already scored a goal for them in the french ligue 1.

Paris Saint-Germain(PSG) Midfielder , Idrissa Gueye

A machine as he is refered to by his coach at PSG, Idrissa Gueye is another quality player that will be key in Senegal’s squad for the afcon next year.

Having helped PSG qualify to the semi finals of the Uefa champions league , Gueye would be motivated to replicate the same form to his national team and make his country proud by winning the nations cup.

Napoli and senegal defender, Kalidou Koulibaly

Koulibaly is one of the most valuable African defenders in Europe. He has been consistent with the Italian Serie-A side Napoli and will be a key figure for Senegal at next year’s Afcon.

Abdou Diallo, PSG defender

Diallo who recently switched his international allegiance to Senegal from France, will be a huge boost to the Terrenga lions squad at the back and his patnership with Koulibaly will be one to look out for at next year’s Cameroon afcon.
